Our Professional Refinishing Process

At Custom Cabinet Refinishing (CabRenew), we don’t just paint cabinets—we provide a comprehensive restoration that brings a factory-quality finish back into your home. Our process is designed for durability, beauty, and absolute respect for your living space.

1. Preparation & Home Protection

The most critical part of a professional finish happens before a single drop of paint is ever applied.

  • Total Site Shielding: We treat your home like a clean room. We use heavy-duty floor protection from the entrance to the work area and mask off all countertops, appliances, and walls with professional-grade plastic and masking paper.

  • Overspray Containment: To ensure no fine particles escape the kitchen, we establish a negative-pressure containment zone. Using zip-poles and high-velocity fans, we create a sealed barrier that filters air and prevents dust or overspray from settling on your furniture or flooring.

  • HVAC Sealing: We temporarily seal or filter air vents in the work area to protect your home’s air quality and prevent dust from circulating through your ventilation system.

2. Meticulous Disassembly

  • Hardware & Door Removal: All doors and drawer fronts are carefully removed and labeled using a systematic numbering process. This ensures every piece returns to its exact original location with a perfect fit.

  • Off-Site/On-Site Workflow: While your cabinet frames (carcasses) are refinished in the home, doors and drawers are often processed in a controlled environment to ensure an even, dust-free application.

3. Surface Deep-Cleaning & Degreasing

  • The “Clean-First” Rule: Kitchen cabinets collect years of cooking oils, steam, and hand oils. We use industrial-strength degreasers to strip away every trace of residue. Without this, even the best primer will eventually peel.

4. Sanding & Surface Repair

  • Mechanical Bonding: We perform a “scuff sand” on all surfaces. This doesn’t just smooth the wood; it creates a microscopic “profile” that allows the new finish to bond chemically and mechanically to the substrate.

  • Imperfection Repair: We fill old hardware holes, wood grain voids, and minor dings with premium fillers, then sand them flush for a perfectly smooth canvas.

5. Professional Primer & Coating

  • High-Build Bonding Primers: We apply specialized primers designed specifically for cabinetry. These block wood tannins from bleeding through and provide a uniform base for the color.

  • Precision HVLP Spraying: Unlike brushes or rollers that leave texture and “orange peel,” we use High-Volume Low-Pressure (HVLP) sprayers. This technology provides a smooth, glass-like finish that mimics the quality of brand-new, high-end cabinetry.

  • Multi-Coat Durability: We apply multiple thin, even coats of industrial-grade cabinet finish, allowing for proper cure times between applications.

6. Reassembly & Final Inspection

  • The Reveal: Once cured, we re-install your doors and drawers. We can also install new hinges, soft-close dampers, or updated hardware at this time.

  • Quality Walkthrough: After the masking is removed and the area is cleaned, we perform a final walkthrough with you to ensure every edge and corner meets the Custom Cabinet Refinishing standard of excellence.
